Save the Bay Animated Explainer Video

Video Challenge

Create and design an explainer video with animation and film that discusses about a topic, such as how a product works or a sort of service.

Objective

Save the Bay! It is more than just a phrase, it is a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to cleaning, restoring, and protecting the Narragansett Bay and I was able to create an explainer video depicting just exactly how Rhode Island’s Save the Bay runs.

Strategy

For this project I had to incorporate animation and film in order to explain how Save the Bay works. I first wanted my idea for the video to have a montage of different close-up shots from around the bay (water, animal life, plants).

However due to the camera I was using I was limited to the types of shots I could record. I decided then to cut back on filming these shots and adding more animation to replace them.

Animated Execution

Replacing those scenes with animation actually gave me more design freedom and further enhance the message of all the other opportunities that Save the Bay offers to the public. I was also able to keep a steady flow and transition well between the different scenes of film and animation.

The balance of the video shots capturing the beauty of the Narragansett Bay and then the animation scenes explaining all the work Save the Bay does for the environment and the community creates a nice balance between the two designing platforms.
