Challenge
At the end of my associate’s program, I was tasked with creating a storyboard discussing the design progress of creating my first logo as a graphic designer.
Objective
As I started this assignment, I decided to tell the design progress of my first logo as a children’s book. I came up with the idea for the illustrations to tell the story of a young fox trying to figure out what it means to be a fox, similar to how I was trying to figure out my graphic designer identity.
Design Strategy
I decided to do something completely different from the actual design of the storyboard. Since I was creating a children’s book, I looked back at the books I read and remember the watercolor designs by Quentin Blake. I wanted to recreate that style of splashing watercolors onto the canvas and creating a scene from the mess.
Watercolor Execution
Since I have never painted with watercolor paints, I decided to use Photoshop. There I was able to find a brush set that resembles paint and was then able to change the texture of the canvas. So that it would resemble the effects of real watercolors applying to paper and on top of the other colors.
